Global Stone Workshop® evolution from Sweden, 1996, to India, 2012.
Global Stone Workshop® was founded 1996 and is led by Mrs. Anna Löwdin, anna.lowdin@telia.com, Mr. Sergio Perea, sergio.perea@spray.se, and Stefano Beccari, stefanobeccari.sculptor@gmail.com. All three are sculptors living and working in Sweden.
The goal is to improve opportunities for artists to sculpt in stone and establish/facilitate contacts between artists from different countries.
Global Stone Workshop® is open to artists, photographers, AD, designers, teachers in art, architects, ... to all those who are professionally involved with images.
We had no money then, nor now for that matter, but we thought that if the idea was good enough, everything would work itself out ... and that was it.
Since inception, we have organized 185 workshops in seven countries with over 600 participants, mostly from Scandinavia and Europe.
Global Stone Workshop® offers a professional work place for stone carving and a room in a cheap hotel. Our partners are commercial stone yards with their own craftsmen.
Present and future
Global Stone Workshop ® is transforming its workshops into "Cultural Platforms" ...from where artists can explore the cultural landscapes they work in focusing on the stone.
The first one is "SCULPTURE PLATFORM INDIA®", founded in 2011 by Mr T. Baskaran, Creative Sculptors, India, and Stefano Beccari, Global Stone Workshop®, Sweden. This Non for Profit Organisation works in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu.
In addition to traditional workshops Global Stone Workshop® will organize lectures and professional guided tours of quarries, of stone wholesale, of stone industries, cities and memorials which are characterized by the local stone.
A kind of "The Road of the Stone" from quarries to finished buildings, monuments and statues.
