GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP® is a small, not-for-profit organisation, which organises sculpture work stages, called “INCONTRI” (GATHERINGS), in European locations where a sculptor’s favourite stone is quarried. Currently, the organisation operates in Sweden, in the province of Bohuslän (many coloured granites) and in the island of Gotland (limestone with many imbedded fossils); in Italy, at Carrara (marble) and Volterra (alabaster), in Portugal, at Pèro Pinheiro (coloured marbles and limestone); and in Croatia, in the Island of Brach (white limestone).

GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP® was founded in 1996 by Stefano Beccari, a Swedish-Italian artist, who lives in Stockholm, and Hans Leutscher, a Dutch sculptor, who lives and works in Rotterdam.

The founders’ purpose is to work with the other participant artists and to exchange professional experiences. Although the organisation is very “young”, it has already organised 72 INCONTRI with the participation of over 347 artists from all over Europe.
