Marble Workshops in Marina di Carrara, Italy
Workshops start on May 31- June 3 and on September 6-10.
One week workshop including single room accommodation for 6 days at the Hostel Turimar, cost 340€.
For the past 14 years, Global Stone Workshop® has organized 69 gatherings at AMA Srl, which runs a nice, spacious, well-equipped studio, located 300 meters from the sea and with a view of the Carrara marble quarries.
AMA Srl specializes in handcrafting all kinds of marble objects, such as copies of antique and modern statues, architectural details, fountains, etc. The studio's artisans are also available to assist the participants in scabbling and finishing their sculptures. There is hardly a need to highlight the usefulness of such an environment for all those sculptors who wish to improve their technical skills.
The workspace is ample and flexible and there is a sincere desire to meet the needs of workshop participants. The workshop includes a medium-size block of marble per week.
Artists are required to bring their own work tools. In the proximity of the studio there are two dealers who sell good quality machines and tools for working marble at reasonable prices.
Carrara is the site of the most active stone market in the world. There are over 300 medium and large businesses engaged in the quarrying, processing and marketing of all kinds of stone with a commercial value. With the sea nearby and temperate weather even in the summer, it is an ideal place to alternate work with life on the beach.
Marina di Carrara is located in the region of Tuscany, 110 km from Florence, 40 km from Pisa and 30 km from Lucca. This means that there are innumerable opportunities for excursions and visits to national parks and historic towns, a fact that those who want to sculpt without haste may find a bit stressful.
Global Stone Workshop® participants are housed at the Casa Albergo Turimar in Marina di Massa, 3 km away from AMA Srl's workshop. Casa Albergo Turimar is the largest hostel on the entire Versilia coast and has two swimming pools.
