The Limestone Workshop on the island of
Gotland, Sweden. The Burgsvik International Stone Festival starts on the 11th of August. The leader of the Festival is Sculptor Vincent Williams In 2008, for the sixth year, Global Stone Workshop™ organises a workshop in Gotland. This is a beautiful island in the Baltic Sea, renown for its pink/grey and green/grey limestone with clearly visible fossils. Workshop participants work directly in a small quarry inside a natural preserve in the southern part of the island. It is a magical place, on an elevation, with the sea on three sides and the sky "covering" everything and everyone. The workshop lasts 2-3 weeks and costs Euro 170/week and includes a workspace with sculpting box, compressed air/power hook-up as well as small blocks of limestone. Tools are available for 76 Euro/week. Lodging is in a hostel by the seashore, 3 km from the quarry, with a large kitchen and two beautiful common living rooms. Single room EU 170/week, double room EU 295/week. |
