India!
A Great Country! ... With fine stone, skilled artisans, beautiful temples, healthy food and a wonderful climate.
... And with a lot of opportunities to work with different materials, stone, bronze, wood, textiles, handicrafts and get qualified help at a low cost.

You can ... finally ... create artworks that combines materials and technologies without incurring liabilities for life.

Global Stone Workshop ® purpose is not money but to open new perspectives for our creativity.

In India, Global Stone Workshop ® has signed cooperation agreements with two stone studios.
It applies a total of 4 workshops from December 2010 to February 2011 ... 2 to 4 weeks long ... room for 8 artists in every workshop.

This first year we will have two leaders in each workshop.... one from Europe and one from India.

Moisés Preto Paulo, Global Stone Workshop® partner in Portugal, helps in Goa and I myself in Mamallapuram/Madras.
Sharad Kapuskar, an extraordinary talented sculptor of portraits in stone and bronze, is our partner in India.

Two leaders are necessary because of very different ¨working  cultures¨ that will meet and has to be reconciled.
Workshops become somewhat more onerous, but also more effective and exciting.

Global Stone Workshop® starts in Goa at Kerkar Art Complex, Calangute, on December 06 and on December 20. Surf to www.subodhkerkar.com for info and photos.

Subodh Kerkar is an internationally active sculptor with a large outdoor studio and an elegant art centre with gallery, restaurant and nice rooms, 300 meters from the beach.

One week of work (power, compressed air, hand tools and some power tools are included) and 6 days in double room accommodation for each participant (any accompanying stay free of charge) costs 370 €.

Stone to be added. You can choose from white marble from Rajasthan (a bit more expensive), and black, ¨ soft ¨ granite from Karnataka (slightly cheaper).
If you stay 2 more weeks the cost will diminish to 660 €.

In January 03 and 24 we will start two workshops in Mamallapuram/Madras, UNESCO's World Heritage, 60 km south of Madras/Chennai, India's fourth city. Surf on Google, both Maps and Texts.

Creative Sculptors is our host there. Driving force behind the studio is Mr. T. Baskaran, classical Indian sculptor and temple builder, with 400 years of experience.

The stone studio is incredibly inspiring with 40 craftsmen producing Hindu Gods in all shapes and sizes, texts on stone slabs and temple details.

One week of work (power, compressed air, hand tools and some power tools are included) and 6 days in double room accommodation for each participant ( accompanying stay free of charge ) costs only 200 €.
Stone to be added, "soft" granite from Kanchipuram, the Thousand Temple City, but it is not expensive.
Prolong your workshop with 2 more weeks and the cost is down to 300 €.

If you want to be helped by an Indian craftsman, sculptor, blacksmith, foundry, carpenter, it costs a maximum of 7€/day.

In Mamallapuram Global Stone Workshop ® hires 8 rooms at Guesthouse Luna Magica, Fishermen Colony ... right on the beach with an open, clean sea. Rooms, all with shower, are very simple, but the terraces and the restaurant makes the establishment enjoyable.

The difference in price between Goa and Mamallapuram/Madras is due mostly to the rooms ... those in Goa have a much higher standard.

Both Goa and Madras/Chennai are reached by direct flights from Europe. Deadline for booking workshops in India is September 30, 2010.
