"SCULPTURE PLATFORM INDIA®" 2012
A Non for Profit Organization established 2011 by Global Stone Workshop®, Sweden, and Creative Sculptors, India.
While India has always been a treasure-trove for creative people, Mahabalipuram is now the ultimate destination for all artists sculpting in stone, wood and bronze.
In this little town of only 14.000 inhabitants, hundreds of craftsmen keep carving in marble and black granite one exquisite Hindu God after another. They have been doing so for 2000 years and the outcome of their combined experience is tremendously inspiring.
Global Stone Workshop® has found the best stone yard among them, namely Creative Sculptors and its founder Mr. T. Baskaran, sculptor and temple builder. Participants to our workshops receive all the support they may need at a favorable price. The assistance of a skilled stonemason costs about 10 € / day. You may submit models for execution in different scales and materials ... also that at very low cost.
The local stone is cheap and so is shipping home the works of the participants. A 1m3 crate, weight 1000kg, costs 600€ (+VAT) to transport from Mahabalipuram to any port in Northern Europe.
While the stone yard is pretty unique so is Mahabalipuram a jewel with its temples from the 7th century Pallava Dinasty period, and with its wide, beautiful beaches, which stretches far to the North and South. The water in the Bay of Bengal is clean and keeps steady 24° from December to March.
Participants will stay at a guest house and a hotel right on the beach. You can choose between very basic double rooms with toilet and comfortable rooms with private balcony, air conditioning, mosquito nets, television, refrigerator, cold & hot water. All rooms have sea view.
Mahabalipuram is located 67 km south of Chennai airport. There are direct flights from Europe to Chennai, India's fourth largest city. One of our cars will pick you up at the airport at any time. Cheque the destination with Google Maps, visit the website www.creativesculptors.com and break the tough winter for a few weeks sculpting in shorts and sandals.
Global Stone Workshop® bronze casting workshops
A bronze casting workshop takes three weeks. The process used at site is called "tribal-casting" and corresponds to our "lost wax". During the first week, the artists work with wax and casting forms.
On the second week, Creative Sculptors’ craftsmen do the actual casting and after that participants take over the finishing of the sculptures. You will find all the necessary material at the venue. Qualified assistance is available at a very reasonable price.
Participants at a bronze workshop should be able to master the phases of the process ...except the actual casting which will be made by local craftsmen. You can also hand over the wax models for casting and finishing. All material to be charged at net price.
The workshop fee includes only hotel and working space facilities.
