GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP®
PROGRAMME FOR 2012
Sculpture wind abates in Europe and is growing in Asia.
The economic crisis has gone far and affects also our profession.
2012 will be the last year with a full program - spring and autumn - in Carrara, in Odrinhas and in Zaragoza.
As things now stand, sculptors tend to prefer three, or more, work weeks in India and in Vietnam wintertime than two in south Europe. It's actually a pity.
Global Stone Workshop® activities in Italy and Portugal, refined over 16 years, have never been as efficient and rewarding as now.
India is emerging as a new frontier ... on all fronts.
2012 will start and end with long, multi-fasetted workshops in Tamil Nadu. Our ambition is to develop Mahabalipuram to become a major center for the development of large and small sculptures in stone, bronze and wood. Public and private projects will be executed at a reasonable cost.
We want to achieve this without changing the local craftmen’s traditional way of processing the stone significantly. Our ambition in itself is a challenge as it requires a new approach to artistic solutions for us and for our Indian Partners.
Vietnam is always on the agenda.
Danang Sculpture Foundation has come a long way in giving the visiting artists the stones and the assistance required for their projects. We do admire them for the results they have achieved with great effort, strong will and a lot of persistence. We will continue to direct interested sculptors to them.
The expanded management team of Global Stone Workshop® will keep a higher profile this year. Anna, Sergio and Stefano will lead various workshops.
There is still a lack of money but everyone's enthusiasm is at its peak ... Global Stone Workshop is an example of how far one can reach under such conditions.
