Colored limestone and marble workshops in Odrinhas, Portugal.

Starts on May 28 and on September 24, 2012. The cost for one week workshop and single room accommodation is 285€, with a minimum stay of two weeks.

The Centro Internacional de Escultura, (CIE), makes available 6 well set-up workspaces. The work area is clean and tidy, with all workspaces sheltered by roof and walls. CIE makes available to workshop participants its own crew at a low cost.

The workshop includes small blocks of marble/limestone. Hand and electric tools are available. Accommodations are in rooms in the hamlet of Odrinhas.

Workshops, exhibitions and symposia of sculptures in Portugal.

Global Stone Workshop® and the Centro Internacional de Escultura (CIE) have been collaborating for 10 years.

Sculptor Moisés Paulo Preto, founder of the CIE, has built a new centre just outside Odrinhas, a hamlet in the middle of a green landscape, 11 km from the town of Sintra and 40 km from Lisbon.

The new centre includes work spaces for sculpting stone, wood and metal, an exhibition hall and a sculpture park.  Plus locker rooms, bathrooms, showers, a kitchen and a veranda to relax and eat. The premises are large and confortable.

Equipment include compressors, power and hand tools and a nice stock of marble and limestone in many colours. In Odrinhas there are food stores (4), bars (3), restaurants (2), a church and a museum of Roman antiquities. The ocean and the beaches are just 7 km away.

Our idea is to offer the participants the possibility to show their works and take part in stone carving symposia.

Our formula is:
• interested artists participate in our workshops and work on their own sculptures

• those sculptures remain property of the artist and are kept at CIE for 2 years. Art works will be shown in at least three touring exhibitions (at no cost to the participant), or in an art gallery in central Lisbon (for a participation fee) and as reference material for symposia...(CIE is the preeminent organizer of symposia in Portugal).

• should an artist be selected for a symposium, he/she will be reimbursed for trip, lodging expenses and will receive economic compensation for his/her work.
